It has played a crucial role in advancing civil rights, gender equality, environmental protection, and anti-racism. Movements such as the US Civil Rights Movement used collective action to challenge societal injustices, resulting in transformative legal and social reforms. However, many acts of resistance remain overlooked in historical narratives, depriving us of valuable lessons and inspirations for current struggles. We are currently facing the sixth mass extinction, driven by human activity and characterized by an alarming rate of species loss, far surpassing natural extinction rates. This biodiversity crisis threatens not just wildlife but also human survival and well-being, linking environmental degradation to human rights issues. In this context, the fight for human rights is more vital than ever, emphasizing the protection of basic rights outlined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Activism today is about addressing injustices, supporting marginalized communities, and striving for a more equitable and respectful society, especially amidst global challenges like climate change, economic hardship, and widespread inequality.
